Many model railroad vehicles suffer from unreliable power pickup. When passing over turnouts or slightly dirty track, this can lead to jerky operation, stalls, or interruptions of lighting and sound. A stay-alive capacitor (also called buffer capacitor) can effectively solve this problem. During normal operation the capacitor charges from the track power and temporarily supplies energy when power pickup is interrupted. This helps maintain smooth and reliable operation. To prevent high inrush currents while the capacitor is charging, which many digital command stations could interpret as a short circuit, the charging current is limited by a series resistor. A diode is also included so that during discharge the full energy of the capacitor is available to the decoder or electronics. This Set includes: Electrolytic capacitor 2200 µF / 35 V, a suitable diode (1N4007) and a resistor (100 Ω, 1/4 W). Important note: Installation may vary significantly depending on the model. Therefore, a detailed installation guide cannot be provided. However, the set includes a wiring diagram showing the basic connection of the components. For further details, please consult the documentation of your decoder or model. Please also ensure that sufficient space is available inside your vehicle before ordering. A 2200 µF capacitor is relatively large due to its design (16 x 25 mm without legs).
