Between 1989 and 1995, the SBB introduced a new series of coaches for EuroCity services alongside the EW IV coaches that remain in service today. These coaches were developed from the Bpm RIC coaches delivered in 1980 and the EW IV design. Their distinctive livery, featuring two shades of gray separated by a light-colored stripe, had previously been used on former TEE trainsets (RABe) converted for two-class EuroCity operation. The light stripe of the Eurofima color scheme was retained. The coaches offer 60 seats in first class and 78 seats in second class, arranged throughout in a face-to-face seating configuration.
