The CC 6500 is a French electric locomotive class designed for operation on the SNCF's DC electrified network. When introduced in 1969, these locomotives, approved for speeds of up to 200 km/h, were among the most powerful locomotives in the SNCF fleet. Initially used on prestigious long-distance passenger and express services, the CC 6500s increasingly found work in freight service from the 1990s onward. The last locomotives were finally withdrawn from regular operation in 2007.
